KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — At the end of a back-and-forth game Saturday afternoon at Neyland Stadium, Georgia running back Josh McCray scored on a 1-yard run in overtime to lift No. 6 Georgia to a 44-41 win over No. 15 Tennessee.

The crowd of 101,915 saw both teams have the lead in the fourth quarter, and in overtime, after the Bulldog defense held the Volunteers to a field goal, Georgia was able to get into the end zone and beat UT for the ninth straight time.

Georgia beat Tennessee 44‑41 in overtime.

Tennessee had the lead in OT with a field goal, but Georgia responded with a 1‑yard touchdown run by Josh McCray to seal the win. 

Key Moments

Tennessee jumped out fast: they led 21‑7 after just the first quarter. Joey Aguilar was sharp early, including two striking touchdown passes to Chris Brazzell II.

Georgia closed the gap before halftime. By the end of the first half it was 21‑17 in favor of Tennessee.

Later, Georgia took its first lead late in the 3rd quarter and kept it, though Tennessee kept fighting back.

Tennessee had a real chance to win it in regulation: there was a 43‑yard field goal attempt with just seconds left that could have made the difference, but it missed.

In overtime: Tennessee’s Max Gilbert made a 42‑yard field goal to go up, but Georgia answered on its possession with a drive set up by a big run, finishing with McCray’s touchdown run.

Standout Performers

Joey Aguilar (Tennessee QB): Threw for 371 yards and four touchdowns; also had a rushing touchdown.

Chris Brazzell II (Tennessee WR): Big game. He had ~177 yards receiving and three TD catches, including some long explosive plays.

Gunner Stockton (Georgia QB): Completed over 300 passing yards, threw two scores through air and ran for another. Also was clutch in the fourth down catch that forced OT.

Peyton Woodring (Georgia Kicker): Perfect on his field goals and extra points; made several key kicks.

Bigger Picture & Context

This was an SEC opener for both teams. Georgia remained unbeaten (3‑0), while Tennessee dropped to 2‑1.

It extended Georgia’s winning streak in this series to nine.

The game showed that Tennessee has a lot of firepower, especially in Aguilar and Brazzell, but also that Georgia has the grit and ability to come back from deficits. Late‑game execution was crucial.
